Serbs still IN DENIAL

For ten days in July 1995, Serb forces herded men and teenage boys into this warehouse, then opened fire with machine guns. The walls are still pockmarked with bullet holes. Yet most Serbs remain in denial. When Drazen Erdemovic, a Croat soldier forced by the Serbs to take part in the massacre, came forward in 1996 to admit the slaughter, many Serbs refused to believe him.

When video footage recently emerged showing Serb police butchering Muslim prisoners, an opinion poll in Serbia found 30 per cent believed the film was fake.

Serbia's president Boris Tadic will turn up at remembrance ceremony, insisting the crime was an outrage yet refusing to arrest the man most responsible - former Bosnian Serb general Ratko Mladic.

Mladic remains living freely in Serbia eleven years after being indicted by the UN. (CHRIS STEPHEN)

Serbs view their war criminals and butchers as "heroes" which explains why ethnic cleansing and genocide of Bosnian victims has never been eagerly punished. There is nothing heroic in being a Genocidal Nation.
